McKeon Swimming has a proud history of teaching and coaching local swimmers since 1982.
1982: Ron’s father, Ric, first took over the coaching license of Western Suburbs Pool. This was a time before there was any heated water in Wollongong. The primarily surf squad, started every October in 15 degree water, training each morning through to the end of April.
1996: Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort opened, giving the squads a place to train during the winter months.
1991: Wollongong University opened allowing McKeons to move the squads out of Towradgi and commence the Swim School. Susie and Ron employed their first two teachers, left their day jobs, and started what is know today as McKeon Swim School.
1996: McKeons expanded into a second location building a purpose built pool inside a leased warehouse in Nudjia Rd, Unanderra. This 16m pool enabled the organisation to double in size and teach hundreds more children to swim each week.
2005: McKeon Swim Centre at Unanderra opened at it’s current site. Today McKeon’s employ over 100 staff and teach thousands of children to swim each week.
Susie and Ron are extremely proud of the legacy of swimming they have built in the Illawarra. Sharing their love of the water has been a lifelong passion.
